BV Youth Sport Home Challenge
Who wants to take the challenge?
We want to challenge all youth athletes to do these 3 drills at least a few times each week if not daily. These are simple and will only take a few minutes, but your dedication to these if embraced into your daily routine will definitely be noticed by all of your coaches.
Start off with 3 sets of 5 or 10, and increase by 5 once they become easy for you, see how many reps you can get in. These drills will help athletes in any sport they play and make them an overall better athlete.
- 3 sets of 10 Pushups (increase by 5 when they become easy)
- 3 sets of 10 Squats (increase by 5 when they become easy)
- 3 sets of 10 leg raises and/or planks (increase by 5 when they become easy)
- YouTube Video, proper way to do leg raises (follow the progression in the video)
- YouTube Video, proper way to do a Plank (start with standard plank when work toward a forearm plank)
It is very important you do these the proper way, it is better to do fewer reps the proper way than more the wrong way.
Please review the videos with your athlete and make sure they are doing it correctly. Check on them weekly for the first few months. Don’t let them start bad habits and do these incorrectly. I know these kids will need a constant reminder, maybe add this as one of their daily chores before they can get on their electronics:-)
